Anti fur demonstrations continue at Paul Smith.
Anti fur demonstrations have been taking place regularly outside Paul Smiths recently since they have launched a new line of real fur clothing.
Campaigners from the local anti fur group "Campaign for a fur free Nottingham" have been protesting against the shops descision to stock real fur in their UK stores again despite the fact that fur farming was banned over a decade ago in the UK due to the extreme cruelty involved in the production of fur for clothing. The protests have had a positive response from the general public most seem shocked at the stores descision to sell these products.
Protesters vow to up their campaign until Paul Smith adopt a fur free policy with various protests and stunts planned in the near future at the Nottingham store.
More than 45 million animals are raised in cages and killed for their fur. Not only are the animals killed inhumanely, but they suffer from numerous physical and behavioral abnormalities induced by the stress of caging conditions. After spending their short lives in squalid conditions, animals raised on fur farms are killed by cruel methods to prevent damage to the pelt, such as gassing, neck breaking, anal electricution animals are even skinned alive for their fur.
If anyone would like to get involved with the campaign e mail furfreenotts@live.co.uk

Demonstration at Paul Smiths in Nottingham November 14th 2010
A demonstration was held outside Paul Smith today and it was really positive, had good numbers and members of the public seemed genuinlely intrigued with our message.
More good news, demonstrations at their London stores will be taking place this week too! people up and down the country have been making their opinions about Paul Smith selling real fur very clear on their facebook page, So it is really important that we keep the pressure up at Paul Smith!! there will be a demonstration at their nottingham store tomorrow from 12, if we can make that well attended aswell it will be a big help with the campaign.
And if people can let us know what days they are free so we can hit them as hard and as much as possible.
And if anybody has any links in Leeds, Manchester and Edinburgh, It would be amazing if we can hit their stores there too!! and let the customers of these fur peddlers in every city they do their business know the reality about the fur trade!

The bill to ban fur in Israel delayed AGAIN! Your help is needed
The winning post is in sight but we have a real battle ahead of us.
The bill to ban the trade in fur in Israel was again delayed on 2 September.
Your urgent help is needed, again, to keep this important piece of
legislation alive. This is a battle we have to - and can - win.
Intensive lobbying by the fur trade and some religious parties in Israel led
to the debate that was due to take place being cancelled once again.
Please write to Minister Yakow Margi, Minister of Religious Services at the
Knesset asking him to support this important and caring legislation and not
to be swayed by arguments from the morally bankrupt fur trade.
Please write or email today - please show Minister Margi that the eyes of
the world are on Israel and that there is massive public support for this
bill that will save millions of animals from a miserable death, all for a
product that no one needs.

Dear Minister Margi
I am watching with great interest the progress of the important and caring
legislation to ban the fur trade in Israel introduced by MK Ronit Tirosh.
If this legislation was to become law, Israel would be setting a global
precedent that other countries would be sure to follow.
Please do not be swayed by the arguments put forward by the fur trade, which
has vested interests in the needless cruelty and suffering of animals for a
luxury product that no one needs. The majority of Israeli people support
this bill and want to see it become law.
Followers of ultra-orthodox Judaism should support this compassionate bill
that complies with the Jewish religion's stance on "Tzar Baale Lahaim"
(empathy and mercy for all creatures) and the requirement of modesty.
Fur used in fashion is a badge of shame and represents terrible suffering.
Animals used by the fur trade suffer horrible deaths; on fur factory farms,
after a short and miserable life in conditions that cannot meet their basic
welfare needs, they are usually gassed and no check for death is performed
before skinning. In the wild they are caught in traps deemed so cruel they
are already banned in Israel and the European Union, before being shot,
stamped or clubbed to death. All of this suffering for a non-essential
fashion item.
Please do the right, humane thing and do not oppose the bill to ban fur
trade. Show the rest of the world that Israel is leading the way to end
this needless animal suffering.
Sincerely,

Aldi selling real fur?!
Supermarket aldi are now stocking "simply pets" cat toys made from real rabbit fur, the toys are small furry mice made using rabbit fur instead of synthetic (due to the type of rabbit of rabbit fur being so cheap, the market is now being flooded with such toys).
We are asking people to contact aldi and tell them (politely) what you think of them selling real fur items and supporting such a cruel industry, cats play with synthetic fur toys so even more reason for aldi to stop selling such a product.
(ps do not let employees palm you off saying these are not items of real fur they are most DEFINATELY made from rabbit fur).
you can contact Aldi with the following.

URGENT - the Israeli fur ban needs your help
The bill to ban the fur trade in Israel is under severe threat due to lobbying from the fur trade. Critically, the Minister of Trade is being asked not to support the ban and, without this support, the ban has no chance.
The latest pressure is coming from a Member of the Knesset who is related to the Danish Ambassador by marriage. Denmark (the world's biggest fur factory farmer) has been lobbying hard against the ban. It is essential that the Israeli Minister for Trade realises that the majority of people around the world support the ban and that pressure from a cruel self-interest industry should be resisted. Please write to the Minister - TODAY - to let him know you support the ban, that it would be seen as a very positive step for Israel to take and that the eyes of the world are watching.
The next vote on the bill is due to take place on the 12th July so please send your message as soon as possible. The contact details are: Binyamin Ben-EliezerMinister of Industry, Trade and Employment 5 Bank Israel Street Jerusalem Israel e-mail: binyaminb@knesset.gov.il telephone: 972 2 6408371 Please email all replies you receive to info@respectforanimals.org or furfreenotts@live.co.uk - thank you. Many, many thanks. We can still win this but your help is now vital.
Notes: Each year around 70 million animals are killed for their fur – that is more than 1 animal every second, day and night, throughout the year.
These animals are either trapped in the wild or raised in fur factory farms where essentially wild animals are kept in tiny, barren wire cages.
These conditions cause stereotyped behaviour, self-mutilation and even cannibalism. No one needs to wear fur which is an unnecessary, cruel fashion item.
The steel-jawed leghold trap – one of the main methods used to catch wild animals for their fur – has been banned in more than 60 countries, including Israel.
Fur factory farming has been banned in Austria, Italy and the UK where it was seen to offend public morality.
Draft text for letter:- Dear Minister, I fully support the bill to ban the fur trade in Israel. The fur trade is cruel and unnecessary and responsible for the suffering and death of more than 70 million animals each year. If the ban succeeds and comes into force, Israel would be setting an example that other countries are sure to follow. You would be seen as a world leader in compassion and kindness.
I am sure that the international fur trade is lobbying hard to protect its trade but this is an unscrupulous self-interest group that has had ample opportunity to face up to the cruelty involved in fur production. The fact is this cruelty is inherent in the trade and only be banning the trade can the unnecessary suffering be ended. On behalf of the majority of the people in my country, I am asking you to do the right thing and support the ban on the fur trade and to help bring it in as soon as possible, so that others can follow your lead.
Demonstration at Cashe indymedia article
Update on Cashe
We have recieved several e mails from the public regarding to cashe and where they stand on taking on a fur free policy, as it stands cashe do not have a fur free policy!
On a recent demonstration with cacshe 29th january, protesters noticed that at least one item of real fur had found its way back to the shop floor but during the demonstration they removed it.
In our last conversation with the manager she told us that they will not have fur on the shop floor but will continue to sell it oline or if people ask for it instore.
Members of the public have e mailed us telling us that they had gone into cashe to ask about their policy with real fur and had been told that the store will not be selling fur again and only ever had one item of real fur on the shop floor. Even though one item is bad enough this was not the case when members of the group first went into cashe they had several items of real fur on the shop floor!
Nine days ago during a demonstration cashe had real fur on the shop floor even though they told us that they would not have real fur on the shop floor again!
So until cashe pledge with us to not sell real fur again we will continue our campaign with them.
We are grateful to recieve information from the public who have visited cashe or have even spoke to the staff as this is a great help to our campaign and it is important for the store to hear what people think about them selling real fur, but the fact is the manager is telling us a totally different story to what they are telling the general public! It is evident from the way the shop has acted with regards to this campaign that they think we will go away and then they can continue to support this vile trade! This is not the case! the campaign against the fur trade is far too important and we will continue our campaign until Nottingham is free of fur no matter how long it takes!

Vintage warehouse pledge to stop selling real fur.
During a demonstration with vintage warehouse one of the managers came out and told us that they will never again be selling real fur in their store again.
Vintage warehouse will now be joining the growing list of stores to pledge a fur free policy with us and we hope that this positive move by vintage warehouse will encourage other stores to adopt a fur free policy.
This came after a demonstration with childrens clothes store cache who still insist on selling real fur if people order it or ask for it instore (although during the demonstration we noticed a few of the items in question had made their way back to the shop floor but the manager quickly removed them during the course of the demo), A Nottingham evening post photographer was present during the demo so watch out for a possible feature of the group in the near future.

Members of campaign for a fur free Nottingham packing up shortly after the great news of vintage warehouse' fur free policy.
Childrens clothes store cache decide against fur free pledge and say they will sell fur if people ask for it.
Members of campaign for a fur free Nottingham are once again campaigning against childrens clothes store Cache after they refused to pledge that they will not sell real fur again in the future and said that they will sell real fur if people ask for it and still sell fur on their website.
Protesters gathered outside cache today to demonstrate against the store for selling fur.
A lady working in the shop came out as soon as we got their shouting at protesters saying "Go away we dont have fur in the shop any more" to which protesters replied "you sell it on your website and your manager told us she has fur in the back for people who ask for it so you still sell it". They then threatened to call the police to which protesters said go ahead we have a right to protest.
The police came and spoke to protesters and the shop then left satisfied the protest was peaceful.
Dates of future demonstrations to be organised against the shop will be posted on this site.
Feel free to contact the store and tell them what you think (politely of course) what you think about the shop selling real fur.

Campaign for a fur free Nottingham Indymedia article
Protesters at vintage warehouse receive alot of public support and spontaneous demo at kitsch see's them taking fur off the shelves.
Protesters gather outside Vintage warehouse to demonstrate the shop selling fur. The protesters gathered with posters and leaflets outside the store and drivers by were showing their support by honking their horns and and waving or putting thumbs up to the protesters.
This shows that the majority of the public are against the fur trade and are happy to see something being done about it.
We have spoke to the store in the past and they refused to stop supprting this cruel trade.
more protests are planned over the next few weeks to show the public and the stores customers what vintage warehouse are contributing to.
After the vintage warehouse demonstration, protesters were in high spirits after the support shown by the general public so decided to have a spontaneous demonstration outside Kitsch.
Members of campaign for a fur free Nottingham had spoken to Kitsch in the week who had real fur on sale in the shop. The manager didnt see a problem with second hand fur even tho it was explained to her that selling fur new or vintage perpetuates the idea that animals being kept in awful conditions and then murdered in horrific ways for fashion is ok.
Twenty minutes into the demonstration the manager came out and told us she was removing all real fur off the shop floor and will tell her suppliers not to send her any fur in the future.
Baklash pledge to stop selling fur and hand their last fur trim coat to protesters.
Protesters gathered at baklash vintage and retro clothes shop on friday 13th (fitting i know) to protest about the shop selling fur.
Members of campaign for a fur free Nottingham have visited the shop in the past and spoke to the manager in the past who had one coat left with a fur trim, the two members spoke to the manager who was reluctant at the time to stop selling fur trim garnments.
Protesters gathered outside the shop with posters and leaflets and twenty minutes into the demonstration the manager handed the last fur trim coat to protesters saying he will not be selling fur in the store again and is willing to sign a pledge saying he will not again in the future.
We have received e mails in the past of the store selling fur coats anr scarfs in the past, when members in the past visited the store regarding this e mail it turned out that besides the one fur trim garnment all the other coats were mock fur and labelled as such.
The fur trim garnment we was handed from backlash will be burnt so it will not make its way to a shop to be sold again.
This is the same result as the previous week at cow who took fur off the shop floor half way through the demo and have had a meeting at their head office on wedesday regarding a fur policy at all of their stores, the outcome of this meeting will be posted on here when we have more details.
Baklash sign fur free pledge.
True to his word the manager of baklash has signed a pledge to never sell real fur in the store again.
The store are added to the growing list of stores who pledge not to sell real fur second hand or new and we hope that this positive move by the store will encourage other vintage stores to adopt a fur free policy.

Cow Nottingham pledge to stop selling real fur.
On friday November 6th protesters gathered outside cow nottingham to demonstrate against cow selling real fur in their store.
Protesters were holding posters and handing leaflets to the general public about the reality of the fur trade, customers of the store and passers by were happy to take leaflets some even decided not to go into the store after realising they sold fur.
About 30-40 minutes into the demonstration the manageress came out and spoke to us saying she will take all the fur off the shop floor and will not be selling it again.
The previous manager of cow signed a pledge to not sell real fur in their store again. but when the new manageress took over the head office sent bags full of clothes that included fur hats, gloves, fur trim coats, etc. The current manageress claimed to have no knowledge of the pledge the previous manager signed.
Customers should still keep an eye on the store that they keep to this policy and let us know via our e-mail address if cow go back on this policy again.
